Every team has their own set of standards of which draft prospects and free agents must fit into. I remember reading an interesting article by Chris Ballard, general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, and how he takes to the scouting process. He also mentions the situations when a team may draft a player who doesn’t meet one of their standards in one area, yet makes up for it in another.

Draft Picks and Needs

The Seahawks are set up for a great 2020 draft. They have several needs and enough picks to build upon their roster.

Biggest Needs: EDGE, OL, DT, S, WR, TE

Picks:

  • Round 1, Pick 27
  • Round 2, Pick 59
  • Round 2, Pick 64 (from Kansas City)
  • Round 3, Pick 101 (compensatory selection)
  • Round 4, Pick 133
  • Round 4, Pick 144 (compensatory selection)
  • Round 5, Pick 162 (from Pittsburgh)
  • Round 6, Pick 214

Free Agency Recap

  • Signed TE Greg Olsen
  • Signed C/G B.J. Finney
  • Signed OT Cedric Ogbuehi
  • Traded for CB Quinton Dunbar
  • Signed OT Brandon Shell
  • Signed DE Bruce Irvin

Seattle also placed tenders on WR David Moore, TE Jacob Hollister, C Joey Hunt, and DE Branden Jackson.

Wrap-up

Seattle has barely made a move to improve their pass rush this offseason and Jadeveon Clowney‘s return remains a mystery. Their best plan is to draft at EDGE and OL with their first few picks and build upon the secondary and receiving corp later on.

No matter what they do, I expect the Seahawks war room to make the right decisions. It really feels like a make or break time for Seattle’s super bowl hopes.
