The Utah Utes the past two seasons have had one of the Pac-12’s best defenses. Julian Blackmon has helped turn the Utes secondary into a defense you do not want to test. Blackmon is going to be an interesting player to watch during the draft, just to see where he could land.
Blackmon has good athletic ability for the safety position. Blackmon does a good job of always playing under control and using his speed well. What I like the most about Blackmon is that he is not afraid to come up and deliver a hit when the time comes for it. Blackmon does a good job fending off blocks and will use his hands and quickness to his advantage.
The one area that Blackmon needs to improve on as he gets evaluated is tackling. Blackmon needs to improve his tackling and be more consistent in his tackling. Blackmon is a bit too aggressive when it comes to pass coverage. As Blackmon picks up experience he will improve in the secondary and limit the big plays.
I look for Blackmon to go in the mid-third to early fourth round of the draft. Blackmon is raw but has the talent to make a difference on the field in the NFL. I look for a team that needs some help in the secondary to draft Blackmon and he will likely see the field within a year or two.
