The Ohio State Buckeyes are never at a shortage for talent and that is true with J.K. Dobbins. Dobbins has been running back for the Buckeyes that has carried the load the past three seasons. While many teams may not be focused on spending an early round pick on a running back, Dobbins at least gives scouts something to think about.
Dobbins is a patient runner and one that does not mind just taking on defenders and running them over. Dobbins has never missed a game and tends to play through injuries. Dobbins will take what the defense gives him and can turn a short gain into a long one. I am most impressed with his receiving ability out of the backfield. Dobbins has the hands and is an effective route runner.
I would like to see Dobbins’ blocking improve and pick up blitzers. Dobbins could also improve his vision and find the running lanes a little quicker. Dobbins could also make more use out of his ability to juke defenders.
I have Dobbins going in the mid to late first round, but I would not be surprised to see him slip into the second round. It will all depend on how the draft is shaping out and what needs the teams are looking to address. Dobbins has everything that teams are looking for in a bell cow running back.
