#1 Jeffrey Okudah
WT: 205 lbs
High School: South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, TX)
Accolades: 2019 1st Team All-American, 1st Team All-Big Ten.
Scouting Report: CB Jeffrey Okudah, Ohio State
Speed/Athleticism: Jeffrey Okudah is an incredibly fluid athlete. Topline speed for a cornerback. Okudah is very fluid in his hips. His ability to rotate them and flip them are both excellent and allow him to change directions quickly without losing his speed. 19/20.
Man/Press Coverage Ability: Okudah has shown good repetitions in man coverage, although Ohio State generally stuck to zone. However, Okudah has the traits that indicate he would be an effective man/press coverage corner. I’d like to see more physicality from him, especially in the press coverage reps, because that would add an element to his game that would be very difficult to throw into. 16/20.
Zone Coverage Ability: Okudah plays good zone coverage. Reacts very quickly to what is going on in his zone and understands when he needs to vacate to make a play. Gets good depth, although sometimes I think he has a tendency to get too deep in zone coverage. That’s something that can be coached out of him. 18/20.
Ball Skills: Okudah entered the season with ball skill concerns, and he put those to rest this season showing incredible ball skills throughout the season. He ended the season with 3 interceptions and 9 passes broken up. I really like the way that he uses his length to snag the football. It expands his coverage range. 13/15.
Tackling/Pursuit: Okudah can deliver a punch when he wants to. Delivered a hell of a shot on the first play of the Playoff game against Clemson, getting off of Justyn Ross and licking Travis Ettiene. I do think that sometimes, Okudah takes poor angles and misses tackles that he should make. However, he’s got the potential with a little bit of work up his angles and become a more effective tackler. 7/10.
Football IQ/Instincts: Jeff Okudah is an incredibly smart and instinctive player. Recognizes things quickly and reacts almost simultaneously to the movements of the receivers and/or the play. It’s something special to watch unfold on tape. 9/10.
Leadership/Personality: Intense personality, oozing with incredible intelligence. Jeff Okudah is going to make some people happy in the NFL with his competitive nature, his fire, and quick whit. He’s got a clean slate off of the field, something that NFL teams will be interested in as well. 5/5.
Jeffrey Okudah is the most gifted cornerback in this class, and it’s not even close. Not only do we know that his athleticism is off of the charts, that he’s a locker room guy and a hard worker, we know that he’s smart, intelligent and he plays the game differently. He’s got an incredible skill set that will allow him to play just about anywhere in the NFL, and he still has room to grow. I love this guy, he’s a top five prospect and he had better go top five because any later than that is an absolute steal.
