#35 Daniel Bituli
WT: 247 lbs
High School: Nashville Christian (Nashville, TN)
Accolades: NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. NFL Combine. 2019 Second Team All-SEC.
Scouting Report: LB Daniel Bituli, Tennessee
Speed/Athleticism: Daniel Bituli is not going to test well at the NFL Combine. He’s a little bit slow and “clunky.” He doesn’t move well in the open field.
Strength/Power: Bituli is a powerful man. Shows good upper body strength, including the ability to get off of blocks with relative ease. However, because of his larger frame and lack of athleticism, you would expect to see more power from Bituli and you don’t.
Tackling/Pursuit: Bituli can offer a good shot at making big tackles in space, but often puts too much effort into the hit and not the wrap-up. Pursuit angles are very poor. Oftentimes straight up misses tackles for being slightly off in his launch angle. Lacks that wrap-up and it doesn’t help his hit coordination.
Coverage Ability: Daniel Bituli didn’t get too many coverage reps, but spent some time playing zone coverage at Tennessee. I don’t think he has much of the athleticism to be good enough in those areas of the field.
Pass Rush Ability: I’m wondering if I am scouting Bituli to play the wrong position. Bituli has good size to be an EDGE and shows a decent power rush as well as bend. But, I digress. He’d probably fit well in a traditional 3-4 defensive set.
Football IQ/Instincts: Struggles to locate the football sometimes. Because of his lack of real athleticism, he can’t make up for mistakes. Doesn’t seem very aware of the offense, and doesn’t recognize things very well at all.
Daniel Bituli has a lot of size, and with that size, you would expect more power. If he can’t bring that power that you would expect, you would want him to bring speed or quickness. He’s not that either. Honestly, I don’t think Daniel Bituli is draftable. I wouldn’t touch him, personally. An NFL team might see a suitable back-up prospect and at the earliest, he goes late day-three.
