I got the chance to speak with Wyoming linebacker Logan Wilson during the Senior Bowl media day event. The following is a transcript of our conversation.
Draft Rite (John Vogel): So I really liked watching you on tape, personally. Even though you’re not, like, the biggest linebacker on the field, you’re one of the more physical guys. So, in your opinion, what do you think is the biggest strength that you bring to an NFL team?
Logan Wilson: You know, I think that I am tough, physical like you said. I also think that I play with a very high motor, where I play with very high effort. I’m a firm believer that effort isn’t something that should be coached, coaches should not have to coach effort. But I also think that effort can erase mistakes over the course of a game. Let’s say that a linebacker misses a fit, D-end is sprinting down the field. He makes the tackle for five yards instead of a fifteen yard gain. Little things like that throughout the course of the game could be the difference-maker in my eyes.
Draft Rite: I gotcha. So what do you think is the biggest weakness? The biggest thing that you need to work on during this pre-draft process?
Wilson: You know, I don’t know if it’s a weakness, so to say. I just need to showcase that I can play man-to-man coverage. It’s just something that I didn’t do a whole lot of at Wyoming, which is fine. It just wasn’t a part of our defensive scheme or how we called stuff. So, it’s not that I can’t do it, it’s just a matter of showcasing it.
Draft Rite: Okay, I gotcha. So, last question. Do you have a favorite NFL team?
Wilson: I grew up a Broncos fan.
Draft Rite: Broncos fan. Cool.
Wilson: But my favorite team will be whoever picks me.
Draft Rite: (Laughs) You’ll have a new favorite team. I gotcha. Thank you for the time, man, I appreciate it.
Wilson: Thank you very much.
