WT: 304 lbs
Year: Redshirt Senior
High School: West Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA)
Accolades: NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Scouting Report: IDL Teair Tart, Florida International
Athleticism: Teair Tart is one of those players who will surprise you with his burst. Absolutely violent off of the line of scrimmage. Tore it apart early on in the NFLPA Bowl. Not a particularly fast player, but because of his burst, he can impact the play in the first few seconds.
Strength/Power: Incredible strength in his upper body. He uses his hands very well to deflect attacks. He has a very strong bull rush and can push blockers with his push.
Pass Rush Ability: Tart isn’t as much of an impact player as a pass rusher. 5.5 career sacks in two seasons at FIU, including just 1.5 sacks as a senior. He doesn’t have an arsenal of moves to get off of blocks, and will normally just try to compress the pocket.
Run Defending Ability: Tart projects well as an interior space eater. He has excellent size and moves very well for his size. He can eat double team blocks and makes plays from being double-teamed.
Instinct/Football IQ: I don’t see a lot of instincts from Tart. I think his mentality is to dominate his assignment and blow up the play within his assignment. Some coaches are going to love that. His football IQ seems to be limited, but I’m really not sure if that’s a coaching problem or a player problem.
Overall: Teair Tart has some serious upside as a prospect in the league. The lack of production will be concerning for teams, but he fits the mold of interior defensive linemen that the league is looking for. I like him as a day three value, but there’s a real chance with a good pre-draft process that he could slide up into the third round.
