Scouting Report: WR Mason Kinsey, Berry
Athleticism: Mason Kinsey is simply explosive. Very fast and fluid, Kinsey is an athlete that stood out in a division three school. Excellent quickness and footwork. He’s very fast.
Release/Route Running: Kinsey ran a very limited route tree at Berry, who seemed to call verticals on almost every play. He shows a lot of pride in his ability as a route runner though, being very fluid and quick in his breaks. He seems to struggle against double coverage.
Catch Ability: Kinsey has a pair of very soft hands. He works well through contact. Attacks the football and desires to make big plays. Showed in his Shrine Bowl performance that he is a fantastic slot receiver prospect.
Field Vision/Contact Balance: Mason Kinsey has excellent field vision. Moves well behind blocks and finds space. Has the athleticism to create space.
Blocking Ability: Not much of an impact blocker. He doesn’t have good form and is pretty much a non-factor. Saw him flat out miss on several block attempts.
Overall: At the bare minimum, Mason Kinsey can be a valued special teams returner in the league. I think that he will find a place with someone developing into a slot receiver and I can foresee him having a good, long career in the NFL. He has a lot to learn, and his lack of exposure to NFL clubs will limit him. He’s probably a seventh-round prospect who will be viewed as a developmental project and most likely will be picked up as an UDFA.
