Brandon Aiyuk scouting report
Athleticism: Brandon Aiyuk has excellent speed once he get’s going. Seems to really struggle to accelerate. Very athletic, has a good vertical and will probably perform very well at the NFL combine. Incredibly shifty in the open field.
Release/Route Running: His release is a little bit slow, as it appears that his acceleration isn’t great. Takes Aiyuk a good ten yards to get up to speed. Works through press and contact very well, something that NFL teams are going to like. Excellent and consistent footwork, knows how to be a technition to create space. Shows excellent potential as a great double-move artist. Aiyuk knows how to get inside leverage and does so with great consistency.
Catch Ability: Aiyuk has good hands and a very good catch radius. Appears to struggle to catch through contact at times. While his catch radius is good, he doesn’t consistently snag footballs that you see him grab.
Field Vision/Contact Balance: Excellent runner after the catch, tough to tackle. See’s the field well and makes himself smaller to get through tight spots. Average contact balance, one would hope to see a player of his size absorb more contact.
Blocking Ability: More than ample blocker, shows good understanding of the offense and puts himself into positions to impact on run plays. Wants the contact and physicality, and embraces the opportunities.
Overall: Brandon Aiyuk is one of those players who can potentially bring a lot to NFL teams as a technical route runner and a deep threat down the sideline. While it takes him a little while to get to speed, he can fly in the open field and does extremely well in deep route concepts. I like his potential, I think he has a very high ceiling. He’s a day two pick to me that could fall into early day three because of the depth across the board.
