Anthony Gordon scouting report

Arm Talent: Anthony Gordon’s arm strength is average at best. He has a very strange looking release where he doesn’t extend his throwing arm to follow through the motion. Perhaps it limits him at times. He can release from multiple angles and throw effectively. Gordon has a beautiful touch that he puts on his deep throws and can drop it into buckets. 13/20.

Accuracy/Placement: Accuracy and placement are inconsistent at best. This could stem from the fact that Gordon is asked to throw the ball so many times a game by the Washington State scheme. Beautiful accuracy on the long deep touch ball. 14/25.

Pocket Presence/Footwork: Has flashed the ability of natural pocket awareness. Moves well within it and is looking to create downfield. Decisive in his actions. Presence is normally good. Stands in and makes throws down the field even from condensed pockets. Footwork is inconsistent at best. Often times stands still in the pocket and looks downfield. 11/20.

Mobility/Play Creation: Mobile player. Has the speed to outrun defensive linemen in college, and extend the play outside of the pocket. Always looking downfield first before taking off and running. Very decisive in his actions. Doesn’t throw as well on the move, struggles to set himself and get a consistent release. 13/20.

Football IQ/Field Vision: Football IQ/Field vision is questionable. Inexplicably doesn’t see defenders even in very short distances and makes horrible throws. He seems to always assume he is throwing into space. 7/15.

Leadership/Personality: Gordon has handled himself well throughout interviews and the pre-draft process. He’s clean off of the field and shouldn’t be an issue. 5/5.

Overall: Anthony Gordon is a project quarterback for certain. The potential to be good is there, but he has a few mechanical issues that he will have to work diligently to erase. His arm strength will limit him throughout his career, but the tools that he has in his arsenal are exciting and teams will find him intriguing. He’s a mid-day three guy.
