Stanford Samuels III will be a diamond in the 2020 NFL draft. Being a legacy recruit and following the same path as his father did to play for the Seminoles. The 6’2 175lbs Defensive Back came alive his sophomore season, accounting for 37 tackles and 4 interceptions.
Samuels’ most notable game was against Syracuse this season where he graded out at an 81.3 over 65 snaps (per PFF). Samuels was targeted 12 times and only gave up 4 catches for 25 yards.
The Florida State football program had an uninspiring 5-7 season in 2018, however Samuels served as a catalyst for the secondary that year. His continued improvement will be of important focus and something to keep an eye on as he prepares for the draft.
Awareness; In the NFL there will be a variety of coverages that will be played. Knowing these coverages would be of great justice for him going to the next level, however I don’t think FSU groomed him to these concepts of run fits and assignments.
With the league trending toward more corners with range the frame of Samuels is more than ideal. Samuels press coverage is outstanding, swallowing receivers off the line, redirecting routes and delaying the timing of the wide receivers. He also has very good feet being very fluid in and out of the trail technique.
