WT: 200 lbs
High School: McComb (Summit, MS)
Athleticism: Very athletic prospect. Jaquarious Landrews has good speed and quickness. Excellent closing speed.
Tackling/Hit Power: Powerful tackler once given the opportunity. It’s hard to work into
Coverage Ability: When given the opportunity, he is a good coverage safety. Plays his zone well, and in the right circumstances he takes plays away with his positioning. Too slow to diagnose plays oftentimes lead to him being out of position.
Ball Skills: Has just 1 interception and 11 passes defended in two full seasons as a starter. Isn’t a ball hawk, won’t position himself to create a lot of turnovers. More interested in delivering a hit than deflecting the ball.
Football IQ/Instincts: Seriously struggles with getting off of blocks when working through traffic to make tackles. Is often dominated because of smaller stature. Awareness isn’t ideal. Oftentimes is slow to diagnose plays and react accordingly. As a result, he allows ample opportunities down the field too often for my personal liking.
Overall: Jaquarious Landrews is an interesting strong safety prospect. While his athleticism and tackling ability is good, he is slightly undersized from what most NFL teams want their safety to be. He is a project in my opinion, as a lot has to be done to fix his coverage ability as well as him ball skills, a couple of things I am not sure can be done. Late day three guy to me.
