Home of the NFL Offseason

EDGE Chauncey Rivers, Mississippi State

#5
HT: 6’3″
WT: 275 lbs
DOB: 6/12/1997
Year: Senior
High School: Stevenson (Stone Mountain, GA)
Accolades: N/A.

Speed/Athleticism: Excellent athleticism for a player his size. He doesn’t have great speed, but enough to be a nuisance while the quarterback is in the pocket.

Burst/Bend: Getoff is good, just not great by any stretch of the imagination. Rivers needs to time his release better. Bend is average, won’t wow you with his skill there.

Power/Strength: Shows potential to be a good power rusher, but needs to put in the work to build more strength. Unblockable by most running backs.

Finesse/Handwork: Has an excellent punch that he starts his pass rush with but has no defined second move. Needs to find a consistent second move and be more decisive to create better pass-rushing opportunities.

Tackling/Pursuit: Excellent tackler. Rivers brings great pursuit angles to the field as well. Lives for contact. Vicious when given the opportunity to great a big tackle.

Leadership/Personality: Chauncey Rivers was kicked out of Georgia in 2015. He was the star player on the Netflix show “Last Chance U.” Sometimes he seems to really lack effort on the field. Energy is inconsistent at best.

Overall: Chauncey Rivers looks like a good prospect if he can pull a couple of things together. His 8 sacks in two full seasons is concerning for those analytical people who want to see production, but the tape shows a lot of promise. He’s a day three guy for me right now, probably 5th or 6th round. The red flags might be a bit of a hurdle to overcome as well.
