Home of the NFL Offseason

OT Ben Bartch, St. John’s (MN)

#78
HT: 6’6″
WT: 305 lbs
DOB: 7/22/1998
Year: Senior
High School: Blanchet Catholic (Dayton, OR)
Accolades: Senior Bowl.

Athleticism: Very athletic. Appears to be one of the best athletes on the field at the level of football that Bartch plays at. He has quick feet that allow him to move quickly. Bartch wasn’t asked to pull, so I’m not sure how mobile he is.

Power/Strength: Suburb power at his level of football. We will see how well that holds up at the Senior Bowl, but Bartch has the size that suggests his strength is not over-estimated. Handles both edge rushers and IDL with ease.

Pass Blocking: Excellent drop because of his quick feet. Plants well. He needs to show more bend in his body than he has. Good recovery skills, for the most part. I did see him make a dive at someone’s legs to recover from speed around the edge that concerns me a little. Bartch shows all of the skills we want to see in a left tackle.

Run Blocking: Strength allows him to dominate, quickness allows him to move up into the second level and impact the play on multiple defenders. Bartch isn’t the best run blocker I have ever seen, but he is good. He attacks downhill and understands when he needs to get off of his first block and move to the next level.

Football IQ/Awareness: Shows a very good understanding of the game, the offensive scheme, as well as defensive schemes and stunts. Bartch has average awareness of where his quarterback is, but nothing to be worried about.

Leadership/Personality: N/A

Overall: Ben Bartch is a fine prospect, and could develop into a very good player. He’s a left tackle through and through. The Senior Bowl will tell us a lot about his ability to handle speed around the edge as well as bullrushes as he will be playing against the best competition that he has ever faced. I like him as a mid-day two prospect as of now.
